At an early ear-ly hour this morning,, Bernard Lagan, a young man of this city,; was shot, and probably-fatallr : wounded by Captain M. J.' Conboy,, of', the ! local police'; department. de-partment. According to the dying statement of Lagan, taken at the Central Cen-tral Emergency hospital, where he was removed immediately after the shooting, the attack made on him by the police officer was entirely unprovoked unpro-voked and that Conboy, who was not in uniform, was intoxicated. An effort was made to get a statement state-ment from Captain Conboy, but the police of the Central station, where he la under arrest, declared that he was in no condition to be interviewed. Lagan is a nephew of Dr. John Lagan, a well-known physician of this. city. |
