Show IT HOLDS A SPECIAL SESSION CITY COUNCIL APPROPRIATES 000 FOR G. A. R. ENCAMPMENT. -? New Waterworks Ordinance Passes Third and Final Reading and - ' Becomes a Law. Several Important measures were considered at the extraordinary session ses-sion of the city council last night. Tho meeting was an adjournment of the regular Monday night session and was held principally for the purpose of considering an appropriation for tho purpose or entertaining the Grand Army of the Republic veterans v,hen. they come here this summer. In this matter the- council voted to appropriate appropri-ate $1,000. The council took up tho new waterworks ordinance and after a short consideration the bill passed its third and final reading and becomes a law Immediately. The new ordinance contains sections providing for operation opera-tion of the waterworks under city supervision, prescribes rules and regulations reg-ulations governing the distribution and use of water; the method of making mak-ing connections, and fixing rates to be charged for water. The schedule of rates differs very slightly from those In force under the old control, the principal exceptions being that soda fountains, drug stores, photograph galleries and public schools will be allowed to install water meters and pay for the exact amount of water used instead of paying the flat rate as heretofore. This is, of course, optional with the user. Upon the recommendation of City Engineer Parker the first partial estimate es-timate of S4.7fi." in favor of the Wheelwright Wheel-wright Construction company for work done on the new city reservoir was allowed. al-lowed. A petition from a number of residents resi-dents asking that an electric light be placed at the intersection of Washington Washing-ton avenue and Thirty-fifth street was read and referred to "the lighting committee com-mittee for a report. On motion of Councilman Austin the matter of removing from three to five feet of sand and dirt which is hing along Wall avenue from Twenty-fifth street to Thirtieth street was referred to the street committee, the city attorney at-torney and the city engineer for consideration. consid-eration. This dirt was placed along the street by the constructors of the new line of the Ogden Rapid Transit company com-pany In building their new lin along Wail avenue. It is said that the company com-pany agreed to leave the street in the same good condition In which they found it but have nt done so. The council adjourned until next Monday night, when they will hold their regular session. |
