Teal is beached on a small gravel bar near , Lewiston. i Since the burning of the two old boats of the company, tho Lewiston and the Spokane, last summer, tne Teal has been transferring wheat from the warehouses at Asotin and upper rivr points to the railroad at Lewis-ton. Lewis-ton. The boat was weakened by the long run up the river from Portland and on the hist return trip from 1 Asotin opened seams In the forward r compartments and developed a de-I de-I elded list. Captain John E. Aklr.s used excellent judgment In beaching the boat and the 1700 sacks of whc.it aboard were curried out on the island by the crew. The forward deck Is awash and the amidships apartments partially flooded. The boat will he pumped out immediately im-mediately with an engine from tho railroad shops nt Lewiston and the work resumed following repairs. There arc CO, 000 sacks of grain piled at Asotin for this service and the total at all river points served by this transportation trans-portation along tho river will run to more than -lO.uOo sacks. |
