Thursday afternoon The walkout was voluntary, volun-tary, however, and was not a called , strike. After a conference with the union Officials the men atrreed to go bac k to work until 8 o'clock, when by an agreement with th superintendent superintend-ent of the transportation department of the Oregon iShort Line, the men suspended work to attend the meet- ' lug of the five transportation departments. depart-ments. The agreement provided, however, how-ever, that the men would see that th passenger trains were switched during the time ot the meeting so tln-r.- would be no delay and during the meeting such switchmen as were necessary left to do this work. At a conference Thursday night a resolution was adopted allowing Governor Gov-ernor li.ivis ol Idaho and vice Preal- Lin.' 24 hours to remove the state con-I con-I stabulary guards from this point, the period allowed the governor and Bhorl Line officials to consider the resolution resolu-tion being 9 a m Friday to, 9 a ni. Saturday. Nothing wassaidj however, as to whnt action would bo taken If the resolution was not complied with, i No switchmen or other members of I the five transportation d. partments has walked out today, nor is there any orders for a walkout. A meeting was held this evening for the discus- I sion of existing conditions by the five departments, but no forecast was i made as to the outcome of the meet- lng. it w .us stated, however, that no call had been issued for men to attend at-tend the meeting, the conference supposedly sup-posedly being only of the men who were off shift at that time. It was stated that the guards had I been removed from the body of the .yards and wore now posted only along j the lines of tho company property, i but that they had not b.n removed as was requested in the resolution to the governor und officials of tho Ore- Kon Short Line. |
