Ann is a Nevada lady, (one tlm hoad of the Nationul WonnMiJs party) who is Just hack from England, where ahe found out that our sisters acrosa the seas are leasing- us far behind politically. That Is, they are beginning begin-ning to get ready to leave ua behind, be-hind, and Ann wants us to set about catrhlng up Over hire on this side of the water when we discover a woman vho seems fairly fitted for political office, of-fice, or one who thinks she is, wO suggest that she run ami then endorse en-dorse her candidacy. Some times sho gets f looted, which seems a fair enough beginning for women in poll-tics. But that isn t swift enough for Ann It lv really painfully slow. Now over in England they have organized a league b wnlch they hope to slap 300 women members Into the house of commons right off It is called the Women's Freedom league and its purpose Is to put polltlcB on a fifty-fifty fifty-fifty basis. A woman member for every man member, in the house of commons is their aim. No use to wait till women grow into the lob, no use to give thorn time to larn the game, no slrret Just aeo to it right off that there aro as many women office holders as men. and that's all The Idea seems to be that whi n I the women want anything done, thoy j aren't going to have to ask tho men to do It for them If thoy want a law passed, which afferts women or children, they will put it through themselcvs which leaves us wondt r-I r-I ing v,hy Ann doesn't insls' upon 31 , per cent f the stock If men ur n't i to be trusted to legislate on behalf of i women. : The promise seems to be that no matter what the women of a nation want done for the common good, the men as a matter of course .tnd a foregone conclusion will bo against. Can it be posslblo that se anUigo- I nlsm has reached that point, or are ! wo women a little too self conscious a little too sox conscious? Come now, isn't Ann taking herself her-self and her sisters a Uttle too se- 1 rlously when she suggests rushing 300 women into office right away' hy, ! 300 wonu n" Why not 300 doctors or lawyers or farmers, so that tho One-tors, One-tors, lawyers and farmers prill bo i properly represented? What we want In our law-makirg bodies is not one or two or six hundred hun-dred women or men but a full quoin ' of good citizens who hae shown some qualifications for holding office. ; Let us make haste slowly and so travel far.
