Show RESCUE S. L. YOUTHS FROM PARK CLIFFS i YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Aug. 14. After being marooned high in the cliffs ot lower Yosemlte valley Saturday night. Ivan L. Anderson. 1859 Lake street. Robert Hone. 1371 East Irouth Temple street, and Clifford Freeze, 380 West Thirty-ninth street, Salt Lake City, were rescued by Fore9t Ranger Charles Rich, Carl Benson and Henry Barnes, government employes. By scaling cliffs and glacial slides for 1000 feet, fh- reBCUe party tied together with ropes, reached a point about 100 feet above the boys about midnight A hasty life line was Improvised. The boys placed belts around their waists and were drawn to safety, although al-though at times their bodies dandled 500 feet In midair above the valley. Hundreds gathered at the base of the cliff to watch, occasional flashes to searchlights denoting the rescuers' progress The return to the vallsy was check ed by the rhslug moon, which baLhed j the cliff in black velvety shadows which compelled the party to remain on the cliff until daylight The youths, thoroughly exhausted af'-r a Mm ihious night, are resting preparatory to returning home. Despite De-spite park rules to the contrary, a few visitors sUll persist in venturesomo climbs up unscalable canyon walls. |
