Show BEET SUGAR INDUSTRY SECURE. Utah's beet sugar industry, in the next few years, should be placed on a firm foundation owing to the fact that the present sugar ' 'i schedule in the tariff bill offers the protection necessary to its de-t. de-t. elopment. Most fortunate for the farmers who are beet growers and the investors in-vestors who arc owners of the sugar plants, ample protection is assured as-sured over a period of years. It would require a radical change in party control of government, and, not short of six years, could the complexion of the congress be so altered as to make possible any un-'I un-'I favorable action Utah's two senators are committed to the upholding of the beet :ugar industry, in fact the entire west, without regard to political affiliations, is determined to protect the beet sugar industry. There .3 no division and this is as it should be. No one net of Senator Smoot has brought him more praise than his defense of this western development, and, incidentally, it may be stated that one of the most determined attacks on the senator came from those who, laboring for Cuban sugar, were determined to defeat de-feat this measure cf western legislation Naturally Senator King, being a western man from a beet sugar itate, joined with Senator Smoot in urging protection for beet sugar. The Standard-Examiner rejoices that the beet sugar industry has been fortified against possible upset and will go on prospering, having back of it the united support oi the people of this region. The Standard-Examiner feels it is entitled to no small measure of commendation for the part it has played in paving the way for the future success of the beet sugar farmer and factory owner |
