Show MOISTURE PROVES BIG ROAD PROBLEM Moisture in the soil beneath hard roads has much to do with tho lifo of the. road, uceordlng to the Illinois states highway division. Samples of the soil taken from the subgrado of the Bates experimental road, southwest south-west of Springfield, showed a water content of forty per ctsait last spring. The bearing power of the soil in this condition was of a very uncertain nature, savs the department. A load uf six pounds to the Sepure inch was sufficient to deform the- soil twe-tenths twe-tenths of an Inch Exp-riments aro being conducted to determine the effect ef-fect of this moisture on the pavement. |
