The first conference concerned wayn and means of carrying on a nationwide nation-wide campaign for extending the practice prac-tice of forestry and stopping forest devastation. Plans were discussed for united nciion bv the federal and state fori8t departments to promote public education on th Importance of fire prevention and suppression and the need to keep th forest lands In all tho timber-producing states continuously continu-ously growing supplies to meet local and national requ,rements for forest products. The second conference took up the best method of apportioning among tho states tho federal funds appropriated appropri-ated by congress for cooperative protection pro-tection of fores! lands e.galnst fire. Th. federal government now contributes contri-butes $400.O0( yearly toward the cost of maintaining state systems of protection. pro-tection.
