And it is an awful bourgeois thing to doubt that his stuff Is great For doesa't It prove that man's a pawn in the grip of .an evil fate? And Isn't that Art with a capital A? though all of the facts In alght Have mostly proved the pessimist wrong and the optimist mainly right! For the pessimist monk swung by his tall from a calnozoic tree. "We are only monkeys at best," he said, "and monkeys we'll always be; And monkeys swing by their tails In trees and they are not built to walk And nil this talk of a 'better race is nothing at all but talk " But the optimist monkey said. "I'll try'" and he dropped from his favorite limb And wc belong to the human race because be-cause of some monks like hlm!i Whe nthe lighthouse gleams on the roughest rocks or the turbulent stream is spanned, When the desert turns from an arid waste to a smiling and fruitful land, When knowledge broadens and freedom free-dom grows you'll find that a stubborn crew Of wholly "incurable optimists" are making these fancier uue; Oh the pessimist groans and the pessimist pes-simist sneers, while the optimist optim-ist up and acts.
