Show AN EDITORIAL I The Spirit of Rotary Only a years ago, the first Rotary club was organized in the United States, a! little group of men in Chicago determining at least upon its initial policy. From that little group there spread east and west, first across the United States, I hen to border countries and finally across the sea the spirit of Rotary. To Ogden there came thai spirit and in its wealth of accomplishment Ogden men now participate with their brothers of many cities. Attendance at their meetings brings thought of accomplishments through an organization of new .ideals. But back of those I new ideals in organized effort are the ideals of the individuals which joined together bring out that greater thought of complete accomplishment through united effort. Arthur Frederick Sheldon, one of the world's famous scholars and business builders, has defined the Rotary spirit. Fie says: "Rotary has evolved into a philosoph We are living in a realm of cause and j i effect, and the English Philosopher Hamilton tells us that philosophy is the science of effect by their causes. Rotary, as a philosophy, is the science of effect by their causes,! as related to the effect which the whole world wants profit by the only natural cause j of legitimate profit, which is service." That one word "service" stands forth predominantly in the activities of Rotary, whether local, state, district, national or international in its scope. And in that word, as applied by Rotary, there is more than a hopeful sign, there is a concrete effort of thou-: i I sands of individuals lo build better for themselves by building better for others, i |
