Show As we thought it would be some timo since a party named kinkead state treasurer of nevada was arrested on a charge of embezzle merit the recio gazette claimed that kinkead bad deposited money in the reno savings bank knowing it to be in an unsound financial condition and that he kinkead was permitted to draw a large amount of this wealth belonging to the state just previous to the collapse col lapie of the bank upon the publication of the statements mr kinkead sued the gazette for damaso in our issue of the dinst we published a few press opinions on this case all upholding the course taken by the gazette and not at all favorable to the plaintiff to the suit wo also gave our opinion in regard to the subject and it seems that the proprietor bad before publishing the alleged libel procured damaging facts against said plaintiff the following from the paper above mentioned goes to prove that mr kinkead liis taken our view of the case and deeming discretion the better part of valor pursued the course as below mentioned without either solicitation or threats from us james II 11 kinkead has withdrawn his suit adint the gazelle tor libel th is very gratifying to us and is doubtless satisfactory to him lie ha doubtless discovered upon u closer examination of the case that we never applied any dishonorable erith tit to him in this whole unfortunate business the gazette never said thief liar or robber once except when we reported beck speech and we di approved of that at tho time in our searching investigations we have never found any evidence that mr kinkead profi tod a dollar individually by the failure of the bank and wo have not seen anyone who has we are trying industriously to make a good reliable newspaper but not by pulling doryn other bep mep |
