Show from tuesdays daily aug MINERS MEETING the miners of district oct ami have n powwow As per previous the meeting of the miners of alie weber mining district was called to order at tho city hall at p m yesterday there wisa motion made that tho meeting adjourn to union opera house which motion was seconded and carried arrived at the opera house the meeting proceeded to appoint a chairman judge R K williams being on motion appointed to that position margary and jos acio placed in nomination for secretary of tho meeting upon a ballot being taken mr margary was declared elected by a voto of 21 to 15 the secretary then read the minutes of the last meeting held feb 1878 mr felshaw moved cither the chairman or secretary stale the object for which the meeting had been called it was then stated that tho pur pose of the meeting was to decide alie proposed change in the by lawi for the eleccion ele clion of officer and to transact such other business as might como before the meeting remarks by mr fel shtil mr stern moved that none but registered miners of the district ho permitted to vole in this was seconded mr margary opposed this stating that miners had twenty days in which to record their votes and that who biad taken up mines in this district within twenty lays of his meeting had as good right to rote as any present mr stern insisted on his vote and was supported therein by mr fel after considerable discussion as to what constituted legal mining botera mr johnson moved that the roll be called and those whose names did not appear thereon to be allo ived to present their claims as legal voters carried alie roll was then called and two or airee gentlemen who had not recorded their mines were upon motion admitted as legal voters on motion a subscription was taken up to remunerate mr margary the recorder for writing and posting notices etc the amount charged being 12 upon motion of mr cobabe the subscription was started a second time there not be ing sufficient subscribed at the first collection to make up the amount to this mr marguy paid a share himself on motion the new bylaws by laws were ordered to be read by sections which was done and on motion of mr cobabe section was rejected then came a deal of sparring on the several sections as read one of the motions made by mr margary that no mining inspector bo employ large mr felshaw that mining companies be allowed to vote their directors direct ois was lost A motion to give a vote to any party loaning money to any egal voter of the mining district to develop their claims was rejected after the reading of the new bylaws by laws which by the way are largely made up of the old ones they were adopted by a two thirds vole of the meeting upon motion of mr felshaw the bylaws by laws were adopted viva toce the motion to proceed to the election of officers was lost and upon motion of mr geo seagers the meeting was adjourned to a week from saturday next at alie coun house at p m As it was impossible for us today to day to get a copy of the aa amended and passed at his meeting we are unable to give them in this issue but hope to bo able to do so at in early date eherd was considerable sharp talk indulged in during the meeting but a great many sensible views ware expressed the principle question with the meeting seemed to he which was the best course to adopt capitalists from controlling the entire mining interest of thi district the matter will however find its level and wo are yet in hopes of seeing capital and labor going amicare ami cabe with each other in mining matters this in our opinion roust be dolp or raining in this locality will be in the in the past unsuccessful |
