Show tabernacle SERVICES SUNDAY aug the meeting was called to order by bishop win slow farr the choir sang the hymn arise arise with joy etc elder barnard F white called upon the lord and tho hymn yo children of our god was delivered by the choir after sacra ment had been administered FRANCIS A BROWN addressed the congregation the latter dy saints have been gathered from almost all nations of tho earth in order to perform the work of the lord great events are occurring and still greater are at our door and it behooves us to realize the importance of the hour we are associated together as a band of brethren as a family united by the bonds of love of friendship and of the covenant of the everlasting gospel this union has como from our own free will not by coercion or compulsion the latter day saints have shown their faith in their religion by sacrificing and suffering more for it than any other people ever did for its creed but weft they may because they have a living knowledge of god and of the plan of salvation while the various sects only hope and be lieve in what dogmas they have received by tradition the latter day saints know that they are following the will of god although there are some that are weak in the faith and walk on by and forbidden paths their faults and failings aro then unfortunately charged to the whole people by conr enemies and the doc brines trines of heaven are blamed for the incorrect practice thereof still we are founded upon the rock of truth and our principles are in controvert ible tending to exultation and eternal salvation the speaker then delineated in a clear manner the chief errors of the sectarian world which denies the continuance of the powers of the gospel direct revelation etc he also related how he had been led to embrace the gospel of jesus and bore an earnest testimony to the truth of the work of the lord after we have passed through this fleeting transitory sphere of existence we will enter into a higher realm of undying life provided we have fulfilled the requirements of the gospel and have been faithful to the covenants we have made with god and our fellow beings we must set our hearts not on the vain and vile dross of the earth but on the blessings and riches awaiting us in heaven before all things we must be united cling together in harmony and with one accord our foundation is broad enough to embrace the whole world it is immovable resting in the protection of the almighty under whose guidance we will eventually come out victorious despite the opposition and persecution of our enemies BISHOP BC CRITCHLOW followed the speaker aitu a short address we come together on sunday to commemorate the sufferings of the savior and renew the covenants we have made with the lord it is a requirement made of us and there are many other requirements imposed upon us to manifest our faith ali though we may be american citizens the rights and privileges of such are denied to us still we have left to us the right of electing our own minor civil officers and in doing this we should be as united as we are in our faith the meeting was brought to a close by singing tha hymn though nations rise ac and benediction by elder samuel eggleston |
