Show United Daughters L of Confederacy Open Convention LOl'ISYILLE, Ky . April 2 The United Daughters of the Confederacy began its twenty-fifth annual conven-tion conven-tion here today, At a "welcoming evening' last night Governor A. O. Stanley, the principal speaker, pleaded plead-ed for a "rejuvenation of old-fashioned states' rights ' which he declared was "the thing to Bave America from centralized cen-tralized government, slate ownership of all our activities and Bolshevism." Governor Stanley spoke as "the son of a rebel brigadier " in a flag draped hall where the Stars and Bars" of the confederacy entwined with tho i Stars and Stripes and the flags of America's Allies were hung about pic-; pic-; lures of famous confederate army lead-i lead-i ers. Plans to turn the activities of the organization or-ganization from the pursuits of war to the paths of peace today developed a proposal to discontinue . gathering i funds for the support of a Red Cross hospital at Neuilly, France, and devote the money to establishing scholarships for wounded men in all branches of the service. no . |
