Show PRESIDENT WILSON AND OTHER DISTINGUISHED MEN ARE TO DE INVITED TO CELEDRATE Ogden and Salt Lake have joined hands along with state officials to work for the celebration of the Golden Spike Jubilee celebration to be held In Ogden on May 10th, to commemorate I the linking of" the Union Pacific railroad rail-road into a transcontinental line. Tho amalgamation of the two factions fac-tions working to prepare a proper celebration cel-ebration was effected this morning at a meeting held In the office of Mayor T. S. Browning, when the Ogden committees com-mittees appeared, and also Andrew Jenaen Of the State Historical Society, who represented the Salt Lake people who had planned the celebration. When the meeting opened it was apparent that some misunderstanding had arisen as to which city had first taken the initiative, but the explanations explana-tions given by Mayor Browning and by Mr. Jensen showed that the movement move-ment hit hoen Tint under wav in both cities at the same time. It was also shown that Salt Lake as a city had taken no action, but such action as had been taken there had been through the Historical Society. So-ciety. Before the meeting ended tho two Interests were cemented in a pledge to work toward a common end in making the event on the loth of May one of the greatest celebrations in the history of the stnte. The plans for the celebration have now been very much enlarged since the first mectinc. when it was then proposed to have the celebration chiefly chief-ly of a local character. The observance observ-ance of the historic event now begins to partake of national proportions, and the members of the committees expressed ex-pressed themselves as in favor of a nationwide advertising campaign. President Invited President Wilson and a number of national administration officials, including in-cluding Director General Hines of the railroad administration, as well as prominent railroad officials throughout through-out the United States will be invited to come here for the event. At the meeting this morning, the committees were enlarged in personnel. person-nel. Governor Simon Bamberger and Mayor Mont Ferry' being added to the, executive committee with Mayor Browning and the other members, Mrs. R. B. Porter was also elected as general secretary of the entire affair af-fair and well keep a detailed report of the minutes of meetings and of all that is done from now on. This action was taken at -the suggestion of the women members of the executive committee, Mrs. Maria Fair Taylor and Mrs. Chris Flygare. Mayor Browning also announced thej members of the executive committee , There are six committees and the following fol-lowing are the chairmen: Warren L. Wattis, finance committee. commit-tee. Thomas Burt, program and arrangements; arrange-ments; associated with him and chairman chair-man of the women's committee, Mrs. Maria Farr Taylor. Ralph E. Bristol, reception and entertainment; en-tertainment; associated with him and chairman of the women's committee, Mrs. Chris Flygare. D. S. Spencer of Salt Lake, railroad rail-road committee; on this committee are also a number of Ogden railroad officials. W. M. Piggott. parade and floats. Gus Wright, publicity. Mr Icnef n RnaUfi When Mr. Jensen, representing the State Historical society, arrived at the meeting and was announced, he spoke of the work that the committee in Sail Lake had done, saying that It might appear that they were trying to steal the "thunder" from the Ogden committee, com-mittee, and that the very' day he gave his announcement to the Salt Lake papers he had seen the announcement in the Opden papers. In the course of his remarks, Mr. Jensen said: "We took up the work In good faith. We knew that Ogden, had started two years ago to do something some-thing along this line, and then the war, came along and stopped the plans. Then came peace, and we did not hear, of anything being done, nnd the Historical His-torical society believed that It should do something to commemorate the great event; and that the 50th anniversary anni-versary would be most appropriate. We had planned out celebration for Promontory and had made some preparations to that end. Now we are ready to cooperate with Ogden in every ev-ery way we can to make the event a big success." D. S. Spencer Named n. S. Spencer, general passenger agent of the Oregon Short Line with headquarters in Salt Lake, had been working with the Historical Society's committee and had written letters to a number of places. Mr. Jensen stated stat-ed that Mr. Spencer had been authorized author-ized In his official capacity to go ahead with all preparations. Upon this announcement H L. Bell, superintendent of the O. U. R. and D. company, who had been appointed chairman of tho railroad committee, asked that Mr. Spencer bo made chairman, and it was so ordered by Mayor Browning. By the time the meeting was finished finish-ed a complete understanding with the Salt Lake committee had been established, estab-lished, and the Salt Lake committees, Governor Bamberger and Mayor Per- r auuea 10 ine general comiiiuiee.
