Show Daniels Commends Y.WLC.A. Work SAN FRANCISCO, April 3 Declaring Declar-ing that it is unthinkable thai ini-elam ini-elam of minor defects here and there should be allowed for a moment to cloud the splendid record made by th' Y. M. C. A. during the war, Secretary I of the Navy Josephus Daniels', in an unsolicited letter to the National "Y" War Work council which was made public yesterday, expressed his appreciation appre-ciation of the work of the Red Triangle Trian-gle which he said followed the flag wherever it went. "Only those who were brought in intimate in-timate contact with it and could survey sur-vey the whole field, are able to appreciate appre-ciate fully the great extent and value of the Y. M. C. A.'s work for the soldiers sol-diers and sailors," 'wrote Secretary Daniels. "In camps and training stations, sta-tions, at home and abroad, at the fighting fight-ing front, on transports $nd at naval bases, it cheered and aided our fighting fight-ing forces. Its halls and huts were places for mental improvement and moral refreshment. They were bits of America set on foreign soil, reminding the boys of the homes from which I they came." The men of the Red Triangle, the j letter said, proved their heroism an I devotion on the battle front, several sacrificing their lives in the line of duty. I - "No organization engaged in such a 'stupendous work, employing so many men over a vast area, could expect to carry it through without some mistakes. mis-takes. But so far as I have been able to determine, these have been few and hardly enough to be considered in comparison com-parison with the magnificent service rendered." |
