Show Victory Buttons For Soldiers, . Sailors, Marines i Instructions as to how dischirppd soldiers, sailors, marines and nurses may obtain the victory buttons to wear on their civilian clothing are contained in the following circular from the office of Edwin C Wemple, director of the western district headquarters head-quarters at San Francisco. No buttons have yet been reeeivod by the local recruiting officer who will he charged with the distribution here. The circular says: "Extract of circular letter. No. 187, W. D., datn.1 April 4, 1910, quoted as follows, for your Information and guidanrr "A lapel button to be known as the 'victory button.' for wear on civilian clothes, will be issued to all officers, rnlistPd men (excluding members of the Students' army training eorps), Mold Clerks, and members of the army nurse eorps, who have served honorably honor-ably on active duty in the army of th I'niled States for a period of 15 days St any time between April 6, 1317, and November 11, 1918. The button will be of silver for those wounded in action ac-tion and bronze for all othr-i "For the present (he 'victory button' but-ton' will be Issued at time of honorable honor-able discharge to those entitled to it and to those who have already been honorablv discharged. Later the button but-ton will be issued to all those rcmah-ing rcmah-ing in the service entitled (o It 'Those who have bon rtisch9rged before a supply of buttons was available avail-able for issue may secure a button by mailing their original discharge certificate cer-tificate or a true copy thereof prepared pre-pared on the form provided for that purpose, or in the case of officers to whom no discharge certificate has been issued, their discharge order, or a true copy thereof, lo the nearest recruiting re-cruiting officer. The true copy of a discharge certificate or discharge order or-der must be executed by a civil officer empowered to administer oaths and be a full, literal, and complete copy of the original and contain all written writ-ten and printed matter appearing on both sides of the discharge 'vrtificate or discharge order The certificate of the civil officer must be m the follow- ing form: " "I certify that the foregoing is a true and complete copy of the original discharge certificate (or discharge or-der) or-der) of and contains all writ ten and printed matter appearing on both sides of the discharge certificate i (or discharge order). " 'I further certify that I have en dorsed on the original discharge cer-1 tificate (or discharge order) over my signature the following in words and figures: True copy made by me (date) 191 , for purpose of securing se-curing a 'victory button' by mail. "Necessary blank forms (form No. 704. A. G. O., for officers) for prep- j aration of true copies of discharge certificates will be furnished by the war department and may be obtained when the supply becomes available from the nearest army recruiting officer offi-cer of any military post, camp or station. sta-tion. "No blank form for preparation of true copies of officers' discharge or ! ders will be furnished. "When the recruiting officer issues a 'victory button he will endorse on I ihe discharge certificate, discharge order or true copy thereof, the fact of I issue and kind of button issued.'" |
