It shows that for tho first tlmo In tho htbtory of tho United Blatos the production of coal has reached a total of ovor 3O0.V0U.0UO short tons, the actual act-ual showing being 30U,la0,GD9 tons, valued at $373,108,843. The production of anthracite conl amounted to 36.87ii.7IO long tons (equivalent to 41 2'iH.hfi Port tons), a decrease of 23 .17u.8t i V .,g tons, or almost 40 per cent, from 1'JUI, This decrease was duo entirely to the suspension sus-pension uf operntlona by the strike In the anthracite region. The vnluo at tho mines of the anthrncito product In 11)02 amounted to I8l.01tt.937, as against 1I:',6U4.U20 In l'JUl.
