Show NEW YORK CITY THEATERS STILL ! STRIKEBOUND NEW YORK, Aug. 20. The dov. ol peace which hovered over strikebound strike-bound theatrical New York today was driven off tonight by a fusillade of hot shot from the Producing Managers' Mana-gers' Protective association, which declared, de-clared, in a formal statement, that It would never deal with an "organization "organiza-tion of contract violators'' like the Actors' Equity association. Paul N. Turner, attorney for the Actors' Equity association, announced tonight that the association had reduced re-duced to writing a .statement that it does not insist on the "closed shop" principle in demanding recognition by tho managers. The offer had no effect ef-fect on tho managers' stand, however. Stagn hands and musicians walked out at the Winter Garden tonight, but the theatre put on lis "vaudevillised" musical extravaganza "Monte Cristo, Jr.," with a piano furnishing all instrumental instru-mental accompaniment. Tonight announcement was made that the newly formed union of motion mo-tion picture workers had applied Cor ,n American Federation of Labor charter, addiug that complete organization organi-zation of the "movie" workers would be reported at a meeting next Tuesday. Demand for iucreased wages, union recognition and shorter hou'-s la to be made following final unionization unioniza-tion of motion picture managers, operators, oper-ators, ticket takers, ushers and doormen, door-men, some of whom have been working work-ing twelve hours a day for ?14 a week, it was stated. nn |
