Show BERTHAWA IS SCENE LOVELIEST BALL EVER GIVEN By THE MARTHA SOCIETY: IS SOCIAL AND FINANCIAL SUCCESS T6 the ladies of the Martha society of Ogden is due great credit for thi lr event of last evening was quite the most auspicious and thoroughly enter taining party given In Ogden for a number of years. The Man ha society's annual ball, which Is i;in in support pi the Martha Da Nursery, and for its gen eral cnaruaoie worn, always opens tne 'social season in Ogden and is usually the largest and most elaborate event in the city. Last evening's ball. In the most beautiful of settings, the Berth-ana, Berth-ana, noted throughout the west for its splendor, was. without doubt, ihe stellar event of years, all features considered. con-sidered. Last year the party was not given because of the influenza epidemic epi-demic and of war arthitles so this (year's event was even more largely attended at-tended and eclipsed efforts of former years. Hundreds of social folk of Ogden and from various points in the j state attended the parly alt hough the governor and his staff were unable to i bep resent, as has been the custom at ! former Martha balls. Ogden's Berthana seemed even more 'brilliant last evening, and an air of gra.qd.eur prevailed throughout the reception re-ception hall, blue room and in the din-ling din-ling room which hud been decorated exquisitely by a special committee of ! ladies Mrs.' P Bigelow . Mrs. Guv Johnson and Mrs. G. L. Becker had charge ol ihe arranging of Ihe flowers and I hey were indeed successful In presenting a scheme entiiely in keeping keep-ing with the beauty of th Berthana itself. Mri Wright also wore a lovely peai i n i klai e Mrs W. H Wat tls, second vice president of the so-cietv, so-cietv, was attractive in B gown fashioned fash-ioned of orchid tissue with sequin trimming. She wore diamonds Others Oth-ers on the reception committee were Mrs. E. F. Brats, Mrs. Thompson Corn, Mrs. A P. Hibbs. Mrs. Thomas D. Dee, Mrs. Ad Kuhn, Mrs. M. S. Browning, Mrs. E. M. Mrs Ad Kuhn. Mrs. R. T. Hume, Mrs O. S Murphy, Mrs. Frank M. Driggs. Mrs. II. II Spencer and Mrs? W. H. Eccles had been ap pointed as a reire.shment committee and they had indeed manifested their capability for no small detail was overlooked and the Kern's confectionery confection-ery of this city had provided the daintiest daint-iest of refreshments consisting of Chicken sandwiches, coffee, sherbet and mints. The cakes were made by the ladies of the Martha society In the dining room the decorative scheme was much the same as in the parlors and reception hall in the center of ,the room one long table had been prettily pret-tily .ei and held lor its centerpiece a tall wicker basket tied with white satin sat-in ribbon and filled with chrysanthemums chrysanthe-mums and ferns. Each small table-was table-was centered with a crystal basket of flowers combined with ferns. The flowers m the dining room were the gift of Miss Elizabeth Huth of the Flower shop and were especially j lovely. When Miss Lillian Thatcher's enlarged en-larged orchestra struck the first note i !of ilv opening dance selection over I three hundred couples glided onto the, j floor and while they danced spotlights I of various soft hue were flashed from I the balc ony above and the scene was I one of unusual beauty. From 9 o'clock until after midnight the guests enjoyed en-joyed dancing and refreshments.
