Show Navy Opposed to ' Abuse of Uniform 1 Of United States Illegal wearing of the uniform of the United States navy is causing some concern to the officials of that department and the city authorities are asked to co-operate with the navy-officials navy-officials in preventing discharged r.aii-ors r.aii-ors from abusing the privilege of wearing their service garments The following communication relative to the matter has been received bv Mayor T. S. Browning "To the Honorable Mavor of Ogdcn Utah: , "The navy department has received reports from numerous sources throughout the country to the effect that men in the uniform of the navy of the United States, are soliciting money and in other ways bringing discredit dis-credit to the naval service These me 1 claim that rhey have been discharged from the navy without funds and ars forced to adopt these measures in ir der to gain a living It la believed that many ot these men who are bringing bring-ing discredit to the uniform in this manner hae never been in the naval service, but have purchased the uniforms uni-forms from men who have been discharged. dis-charged. In view of the above the de partment considers there Is no reason rea-son why any men who are legitimately wearing the uniform of the United Slat' s navy should be stranded. All men w ho have been discharged or who have been placed on inactive duty should have their discharges or Inactive duly orders with them. Any man wearing the uniform who has not been recently discharged or released from active duty or is not on active duty in the navy , la violating a United States statute, which Is here quoted; 'Jt shall be unlawful for any person per-son not an officer or enlisted man of the United States army, navy or marine ma-rine corps, to wear the duly prescribed uniform of the United States army, navy or marine corps, or any distinctive distinc-tive part of such uniform, or a unt-Sorni unt-Sorni any part of which Is similar to B distinc t is e part of the duly prescribed uniform of the United States army, navy or marine corps ' The department would appreciate it If you would direct the police department de-partment of your city to co-operate in pieventing the illegal wearing of the naval unliorm, and also in preventing men who have been discharged from bringing discredit to the naval service by begging or otherwise soliciting funds in an improper manner.
