Show BOARD OF EDUCATION IS WILLING TO DEAL . WITH ION The Ogden Teachers' Federation members will hold a meeting this afternoon af-ternoon at 4.30 o'clock to hear the report of William Knerr. state industrial indus-trial commissioner, who met with the Ogdcn School Boari last Friday evening eve-ning to discuss the matter of recognition recogni-tion of the teachers' organization. Mr Knerr met last evening with the Ogdcn Trades .ind Labor ass. mhly in the Eagles hall and made the follow ing report to the officials of that organization: or-ganization: "The board of education recognizes rieht of all wage earners to affiliate with any religious, political or industrial indus-trial organization of their choice, not to conflict with the laws of this state or the United States. We have no objection to meeting any of the teachers teach-ers under our Jurisdiction either as individuals or through teachers' com - ' mittees, at any regular meeting of the board, for the purpose of discussing j any question that may arise concern ing the school matters." This was adopted as a resolution by the board at its regular meeting on May 23rd. the commissioner stated After hearing this report tonight, the teachers will discuss the status of the teachers who have so far held their; contracts. There are about 50 to 75 I'M' hers, it is staled, who have been; waiting for definite action of the school board in recognizing the teachers' teach-ers' organization. After one meeting of the school board it was reported that the board members had gone on j record as stating that they would not! I recognize the union which the teach-j j ers had formed This action is said' to have caused some of the best teach - I j ers in the schools, and who were not ' complaining about their salaries, to hold up their contracts as a protest in the interest of Justice and fair play, i These teachers have said that they would be willing to sign as soon as the Organization was given proper recog nition by the board Their status.; however, is in doubt, as the time llm- II Set by the board expired at 5 oc"ock May 21. The board members have ; slated that if any of these teachers wished to turn in their contracts they could do so individually by making j personal application at the school of-j fices in the Hudson building It is I probable that the teachers will instruct! the special committee to take ali the unsigned contracts to the office, and! ask that they be accepted. In easel the contracts are refused acceptance! the Ogden Trades and Labor assembly announces that its entire support will be given, whether for one or for the whole number. 00 |
