Show OFFICERS' TENTS ENTERED AND GOVERNMENT MAPS AND OTHER PROPERTY TAKEN A dark reflection was cast over Ogden's Og-den's hospitable reception of the United States transcontinental motor convoy yesterday by the news that the tents of Lieutenant Elwell Ransm Jackson, of tho ordnance corps, and Major Sereno E Brett of the tank corps, had been entered during the night and personal and government equipment valued at $160 and a package pack-age of war maps, prints, etc., prepare 1 while the convoy was en route from Washington, had been stolen. Tho robbery', it is stated, occurred while the officers were attending the recep tlon given them at the L. R. Ecclcii home. The report "of the robbery was made to the police, and officers were immediately imme-diately sent to the scene to investigate. No trace of the stolen articles were found. Two men detailed by Col. McClure were left in this city when the convoy left for Salt Lake, to investigate and make a search for the missing articles They reported to the police station before be-fore leaving and brought with them a number of maps and papers that thev had found near one of the ash cans at the park. They slated that the employes of the park were burning rubbish and they arrived just in time to save the papers from being destroyed. de-stroyed. Following were the articles stolen from Lieutenant Jackson One 3-A kodak and case; leather i property bag, various papers and equipment valued at $100. The articles stolen from Major Brett are: One musterbag, one government Colt automatic revolver, one holster, one kodak, 40 films, one leather correspondence corre-spondence case, a large number of official of-ficial prints and papers. Chief of Police T. E. Browning stated this morning that the officers were detailed at the park during the night. However, they were on duty at the park but not in the ball park where tho convoy camp was pitched. He rtated that he took it for granted that the convoy would have Itfl own guards and so did not take extra precaution in this line. This is the third or fourth robbeiv at the camping grounds and park. |
