Show RAID ON AN ORCHARD CAUSES ARREST OF YOUNGMN Two young men were arrested Monday Mon-day night when caught helping themselves them-selves to cherries in tho orchard of M. K. Jacobs about a mile south of River-dale River-dale and were brought to town In custody cus-tody of deputies from the sheriff's office. of-fice. Ono of them was under the age of IS and was turned over to the juvenile juve-nile court Thp other young man was fined $3 by Judge George S. Barker In the municipal court this morning. Mr. Jacobs appeared lo testify and said that he had the license numbers of a number of automobiles that had brought parties to his placo during the recent nights and that, as soon as tho ownors could be Identified, complaints would bo sworn out. Ho said it was not necessarily the value of tho fruit that caused the most anxiety, but it was tho practice of those making raids on his cherry orchards to break the limbs and damage tho trees to a great extent. Ho said that he often found pieces of limbs of his trees strewn along the road for a long distance, and that he had been obliged to take drastic dras-tic measures to stop the raids. The young man who was before the court this morning said that he had taken about a pound of the fruit to eat whllo driving along the road in an au-tonjobllc. |
