Yesterday sixteen men ar- rived from Big Piney, Wyo., but only H two of them were able to pass the physical tests. The men who came here from Wyoming Wy-oming wore registrants who enlisted In H i ho navy instead of waiting for their l ill under the draft. In speaking of the need for men In the navy. Chief Carpenter's Mate Grey, who is in charge of the local recruiting office, said: "Special efforts are beinp made to obtain men for the naval reserv "The qualifications for men who de-H de-H sire to enroll in the naval reserve are the same st for the regular naval sor-H sor-H vice. The following differences are noted between enlistments and enroll -H ments: H "Enlistments are made for the dura- lion of the war only: enrollments are made for a period of four years, but H the man enrolled will be required to, H do active duty only during the period H of the war. Should the war end be H tore his enrollment expires, he will be H permitted to return to his civilian pur- H suits, but will receive a retainer pay H for which pay he is required to keep H the bureau of navigation notified as to his correct address and. should we be in another war before the expiration uf his four years, he will be subject to call. The pay of the enrolled man is H 1he same as the pay of the enlisted man of the same rating, with the ex-H ex-H ception that an enrolled man, before H beinc confirmed in his ratine, receives H 51 a month more than the enlisted H man and after confirmation in ratine H will receive two months pay per year H more than the enlisted man There is H no limit as to the number of enroll - H ments and special efforts are beintr i H made to obtain men for the following ' H ratings: H "Seamen. enginemen. copper - H smiths patternmakers, firemen, hos- H ' j pital apprentices, machinists mates, H shipfitters. musicians, mess attend- H ants blacksmiths, electricians, (gen- H eral). electricians, (radio), landsmen' H for electricians, (radio), boilermakers, H moldefs, watertenders. ship's cooks, H bakers. a oo |
