Show SAILORS "TIE" NEW YORK AS HOLIDAY TREAT NEW YORK, Dec. 26 More than 10,000 of the sailors who manned the American fleet flocked to the city after af-ter the parade on shore leave, their first in this country in more than a year. Crowds watched the liberty parties as they landed and many an invitation invita-tion to dinner was .extended and accepted. ac-cepted. About half the men of the fleet wero given furloughs of ten or firtcen days and they hurried away to homos and railway stations. About half o those remaining were given liberty for the night or forty- hours' leave and they spread throughout the city taking advantage ad-vantage of every amusement offered, from a ride on a motor bus which bore the sign "Free rides for our sailor hereos," to a dance in their honor arranged ar-ranged by the war camp community service. oo |
