EXPECT POWER BLOW Var Department Awaiting Word From Pershing Regarding Regard-ing Americans in Battle. WASHINGTON, March 27. Belief that the turning point of the battle in France is near at hand pervaded Washington today and American military mili-tary observers, who arc closely following fol-lowing developments In tho terrific struggle, centered their attention on the front held by the French in anticipation an-ticipation of a powerful counter thrust. War department officials today also awaited confirmation from General Pershing of British official statements that American troops wero fighting side by side with the French and British. Nothing to show American participation reached tho war department depart-ment last night and General Pershing reports offered only details of the fighting in the region of Neslc and Noyon, previously roported in dispatches dis-patches to the Associated Press. Until official word from General Pershing is received, none will make a guess on the part the Americans aro playing. nn |
