Show Red Cross Canteen at Local Depot Encounters Busiest Days in Life Of Organization As commander of tho local Red Cross canteen Mr?. Joseph E. Wright 1 has accomplished splendid work during ' the past few months, and of late sho has been especially busy In supervising supervis-ing the vast amount of labor which must be done to mnke tho transient soldiers comfortable and cheerful when passing through this city. Mrs. Wright has as her assistants some of the most capable and willing women of the city who spend days and evenings at the local dopot lnboring to make Ogden a delightful place to tho soldiers or sailors going through. From early morning until late nt night tho ladles are present to servo tempting as well as very substantial little lunches to the boys and to serve them in any other way necessary to their welfare and comfort. The local canteen is probably tho most popular along tho lino as daily compliments are heard from tho coast nnd from eastern points! Thursday of this week the 12th infantry from Camp Fremont, Cal., passed through the city and a large number of fine appearing soldier lads were given the best of attention at-tention by the canteen ladles. Mrs. Fred Kline with her lieutenants was present on this day and nothing was left undone that might add to the pleasure of the boys during their stay In Ogden. With the 12th infantry was Chaplain Chap-lain Father Carrell who extended thanks to the local ladles for their splendid work and stated that he had heard the praises of the Ogden Red Cross canteen sung all along the line and especially at the camp where tho boys are always anxious to be routed through Ogden when being, sent to an eastern port of embarkation. This week has been an especially busy one at the depot and the follow ing ladles who acted as captains, AVith their capable lieutenants, have made a record for themselves: Mrs. D. Watson, Wat-son, captain on Monday; Mrs. McFar-land, McFar-land, captain for Tuesday; Mrs. Archie Mcintosh, captain Wednesday; Mrs. Fred Kline, captain on Thursday; Mrs. Joseph Taylor, captain for Friday and Mrs. Archie Bowman acting as captain today. Mrs. Wright has also spent the greater part of each day at the depot aiding in any way possible.' no |
