The text of the statement reads: "The pressure of our troops north of -the Roye road and north of tho Ancre continued and progress has been made by us in both sectors. "In tho neighborhood of Vieux-Ber-quin our patrols had sharp fighting yesterday and further encounters look j place during last night. Our troops j made progress in this sector and in j tho neighborhood of Mcrris and have taken prisoners. "Tho hostile artillery has shovm considerable activity about Mount Rouge and Scherpcnbcrg and in the vicinity of Zillebeke lake." French Advance in Wood PARIS. Aug. 17 In the region south of Roye French troops have made further fur-ther progress in tho Log'es wood and have reached tho outskirts of thc wood on tho oast, says lhe official statement state-ment from the war office today. There was heavy artilrery fighting west of Roye during the night. Northwest of Ribccourt lhe French have repulsed two strong German attacks. at-tacks. The statement reads: "in the region wost of Roye there was heavy artillery activity during the night. "South of the Avro French troops continued to make progress in the Bois-des-Logcs and reached the eastern eas-tern outskirts of tho wood. The most notable advance wns made on a front of three miles In the center by French and Canadian troops who now aro fighting on a line through Goyoucourt, St. Mard-les-Trlo and Laucourl. St. Mard is west of Roye and there are no villages in the intervening mile and a quarter. French at Loges Wood French troops on the south have forced their way almost through tho Logos wood which borders the Roye-Lassigny Roye-Lassigny road on the west. The wood is five miles directly south of Roye and it would appear that a further fur-ther advance might enable to French to outflank both Roye and Lassigny and force the German to readjust their lines eastward townrd Noyon and probably beyond.
