" I LOWEST RATE EVER GIVEN I FROM OGDEN TO THE COAST I Tho government has stepped aside in ono instance from the announced policy that there would bo no special rates for special events, this one in-stanco in-stanco being in honor of tho Grand Army of the Republic and its auxiliary organizations. . The announcement was mado this morning at the Union depot in a statement state-ment that exceptionally low rates to Pacific coast points will bo given these organizations for two weeks, beginning August 1st and continuing until the 17th. The rate ticket will be good for two months from date of sale. The rato allowed to members of these patriotic organizations aro the lowest ever announced by any railroad company and are given as a special honor to those who fought for the Union in the trying days of the Civil war. Not only the old veterans themselves, them-selves, but their relatlyes, If members ,of the various organizations, can take advantago of the rates. The rates announced aro as follows: From Ogden to Portland, Oregon, and return, $17.05. From Ogden to San Francisco, via Portland and return, 524.10. From Ogden to Portland, San Francisco Fran-cisco and Los Angeles and return, $29.35. To tho above prices should bo added 8 per cent for war tax, which the federal fed-eral law requires to be collected. Local railroad officials stato that no such rates were ever offered before, but the government is desirous of giving giv-ing the old soldiers an opportunity to see the various training camps as that honor Is due the men who defended the nation in its previous hour of need and also because many of them now have sons and grandsons following the flag to uphold the principles of demo- Tho following organizations are named as thoso only who may be granted tho special rates: Grand Army of tho Republic; Asso-elation Asso-elation of Army Nurses of tho Civil War; Daughtors of the Veterans; Lad-les Lad-les of the Grand Army of tho Republic; , Sons of Veterans of tho G. A. R.; Sons of Veterans Auxiliary; Women's Ro-Ho! Ro-Ho! Corp.
