Show uu' , COMPETITION OVER; BUITII1IS DISTRICT A recruiting competition between Ogden, Pocatello and Boise, for tho prize of a ten-day furlough to the sergeant ser-geant in charge of the winning station, has been declared by tho recruiting staffs of these stations. Sergeant G. D. McLeod of the Ogden station announced announc-ed this morning that Ogden would make a strong fight for this distinction distinc-tion and had hopes of winning. Tho result of the contest will bo reported October 1, and the furlough granted for a ten -day period after that date. During tho ten-day period ending July 31, tho Ogden station sent in twenty men, ranking third for' that period. Boiso led, winning out over Salt Lake even, and Pocatello camo second. Salt Lake is excluded being tho headnuarters station. The Ocden station, according to a letter from Lieutenant G. W. Hall, recruiting officer of-ficer in charge of this district hao shown a steady improvement since May and has held close to first place through each ten-day period. '.'This contest" said Sergeant McLeod Mc-Leod this morning, "is going to mean much to Ogden in the way of advertisement adver-tisement and publicity. IL. this station can gain the distinction of winning first place, the honor will reflect on the whole city. One of tho greatest factors in winning this contest .would be the use of the service automobile, which has been proposed as a gift to the recruiting service. This machine could be obtained in time to be of great use during the campaign and such an intensive canvass of the surrounding sur-rounding country could be made that it would be surprising if we could not secure many recruits. "The campaign has been fairly started but will require tho support of everybody, if it is successful. The citizens citi-zens of Ogden could perform no greater great-er patriotic service than inducing men who can to join the colors. And they can do this by supporting the fund to be used for a recruting car." |
