Show ISTE1 PACIFIC iOT TO OPERATE WEST OF HO Orders to the effect that all Western West-ern Pacific passengor trains operating operat-ing between Sacramento and San Francisco were discontinued August 1, have been received. This complotes tho process of diverting all traffic of tho Western Pncific over the Southern Pacific, west of Sacramento, since tho freight between San Francisco and Livemoro has been handled by tho Southern Pacific for some time. Passengers intending to travel east take the Southern Pacific train at the Southern Pacific ferry in San Francisco Fran-cisco and travel ns far as Sacramento and then transfer to Western Pacific trains. Travelers going beyond Sacramento Sac-ramento west on tho Western Pacific will transfer at Sacramento to a Southern Pncific train to contlnuo tho journey. There will be no train service between be-tween Stockton and San Francisco via the Western Pacific but tho Western Pacific intends to operate a motor car over that stretch of road. Tho new arrangement will mean a saving of something over a hundred miles in mileage for tho Western Pacific Pa-cific but will bring Western Pacific passengers into San Francisco 30 minutes late. It also means that overy Western Pacific employe between Sacramento Sac-ramento and San Francisco will either bo transferred to an eastern division of tho road or employed by the Southern South-ern Pacific. Western Pacific equipment equip-ment and docks will be operated by the Southern Pacific where needed and every activity of the road discon-. tinued west of Sacramento. All switching at Sacramento will be- done by the Southern Pacific. This order is in accordanco with the recent announcement of District Railroad Rail-road Manager Scott of the railroad administration ad-ministration to amalgamate tho two roads wherever possible to effect a saving in materials and avoid duplication dupli-cation of effort in competition. Al-Ihnueh Al-Ihnueh traffic is renorted to bo heavy. it is thought by railroad men that the business can safely bo handled by the one railroad especially from Sacramento Sac-ramento to San Francisco where the Sacramento river offers water competition compe-tition and reduces the railroad traffic. |
