Show MASKED DISLOYALTY. (Salt Lake Tribune.) We found occasion yesterday to condemn con-demn those silly suffragettes who, while sensible women are engaged patriotically pa-triotically in helping their country, are doing their best to handicap tho government. gov-ernment. A few days ago Miss Anne Martin, national vice chairman of the National Woman's party, addressed a meeting at Unity hall in this city. She is quoted quot-ed as- having said the following: "There are, no doubt, many other ways in which I could help tho government govern-ment organize war relief Red Cross and other work but I will do nothing but fight for national woman suffrage until this amendment for which we are struggling Is passed by congress." That is a sentiment which should not be permitted to pass without denunciation. denuncia-tion. In this country we have pro-German pro-German propagandists who could wish for nothing inoro advantageous to the cause of Kaiserlsm than such expressions expres-sions by Influential Americans. In Russia Rus-sia tho Germans a"ro paying traitors to work for all kinds of futilities and to expound many varieties of social and political doctrines that will have the effect of crippling tho government. There is no room In this country at this time for those who, whether from feminine perversity, fanaticism or motives mo-tives of disloyalty, refuso to aid in the 7 ' g-nftHirfnf i-ifa -i"1-.? -'V war work and excuse themselves on tho ground that thoy are doing other work. Miss Martin pretends that her work is so patriotic that she has no time for war work. The American people peo-ple should mako her feel that they are so busy with war work that thpy have no time for her or for hor schemes to handicap the government. Ostracism is a desirable method of dealing with those who try to paralyze the arm of the government in a crisis when the services of all loyal citizens are required requir-ed and freely given. It is to be noted with regret that W. H. Folland, assistant city attorney, oc-oupied oc-oupied a place on the platform at the Unity hall meeting and that ho made no protest against the unpatriotic remarks re-marks of Miss Martin. And we do not hesitate to denounce those remarks as unpatriotic, despite the fact that Miss Martin made a great flourish of patriotism to cover up tho essential disloyalty of her sentiments. |
