Show FARM FURLOUGHS ARE TO 9E GRANTED A supply of blank applications for furloughs from the army to perform farm labor, allowed under the farm i furlough bill, passed recently by con gress, have been received by W. P Thomas, county farm agent. In general gen-eral orders accompanying the blanks, it is stated that commanding officers -may grant furloughs wherever it is determined that the granting of such furloughs will contribute to the purpose pur-pose for which they were inten led The military establishment, however, is of permanent importance and whenever when-ever the granting of r. furlough will interfere with its operation, the fur-1 lough is to be denied. Furloughs in j this manner will be kept at a mini-: mum. Furloughs granted under this order will be for short periods, usual- ' ly for seeding and harvest time Furlough will not be granted to an 1 enlisted mm above the raiiK of first sergeant, nor will they be granted to j men in a company in transit or on ac- j live fluty of any sort Furloughs granted grant-ed under Ihv order will be given without with-out pay, except such pay as is necessary neces-sary to l&eei the soldiers' obligations on liberty bonds, war-ris'c insurance or slmiljr ."bligations.
