In- a letter sent to the Ogden newspapers he tells of (he purposes of his trip as follows: "I would like to send a message if possible, to the great American pub lie of these states with which I am to conn- in contact, that I am going with my hat In one hand nnd my heart in the other, and that I know and thoroughly thor-oughly understand that the flare of drums and the big receptions that I will receive are not for me personally, but are for what I represent and that I will be just as glad to grip the hand of the American citizen that is shining shoes on the street comer as I will be to touch flesh with the biggest official of-ficial of these state. They are all Americans, tops, sides, bottom and everything ev-erything else and it is up to us all to get together and use every atom of power that has been given us by the I Creator to make the enemies of de- ' mocracy and the foes of peace know that there is a mighty nation which stands ready to give its last cent or shed its last drop of blood in this world battle for humanity "It is with fear and trembling that I am about to embark on this great undertaking; I feel deeply my shortcomings short-comings and I ask everybody to be lenient with me for I am just trying' to do my duty as I see it, which I know every red blooded American is trying to do with me.
