Provost Marshal General Crowder announced today that the flrst call to tho colors of men who register Thursday will in- I elude men in the 19 and 20-ycar-old classes and in the classes from 32 to 3C years Inclusive. Questionnaires will go first to registrants within thesn specified age limits and local boards will be ordered to classify them first in readiness for calls beginning in Oc- j tober. Young men In the 19 and 20 year classes, General Crowder said, will be accepted for induction into the students' stu-dents' army training corps, but he i pointed out that the authorized strength of this corps is only 150,000 men, whereas the total number of reg- J istrants below twentv will be over 3,000,000. The general pointed out that the total to-tal number of fit men expected from the classes over 32 was G01.000 and j repeated the statement that class one of men now registered would be al- most exhausted by October 1. General Crowder also issued an appeal ap-peal to employers to assist in tho presentation pres-entation of claims for occupational exemptions ex-emptions and declared Uiat no estimates esti-mates could be made as to tho number of old or men who ought to be so ex -' cmpted. j |
