Scores attended from Ogden. Og-den. One thousand were served with chicken and chicken pie and other good things during tho noon and evening even-ing feasts. Ono hundred and sixty peoplo were seated at tho tables at ono timo and the tables wore vacated and again filled seven times. By 6:30 in tho evening 627 peoplo had been served. serv-ed. James S. Carver acted as toastmas-ter toastmas-ter at tho banquet and essayed tho role In his usual happy and effectivo manner. man-ner. Tho principal speakers included James Wotherspoon, County Commissioner Commis-sioner D. H. Ensign, Recorder Hig-ginbotham Hig-ginbotham and L. W. Shurtliff. A long and carefully and excellently given musical and recitation program was given by the younger folk of Plain City. "It was ono of the big and unqualifiedly unquali-fiedly successful social events in the history of the county," said J. G. Read, one of tho Ogdenitcs who attended. "The warmth and sincerity of tho welcome wel-come given tho visitors by the good pooplc of Plain City; the bounteous banquet; tho general atmosphere and every possible appointment for the convenience and happiness of the occasion oc-casion had been anticipated. The celebration cele-bration was a big success. It is nn annual institution in Plain City, this "Home-coming" event and is ono of tho prettiest customs ever inaugurated .in Utah or any other state. Tho big idea of tho entire -celebration is to gather, renew childhood days and indulge in refreshing reminiscences remin-iscences of the halcyon days when "everybody lived in Plain City." It is such events as these that make life worth while. |
