Show 'DREW MARSHALL SEEN TWO DAYS AFTER HE DISAPPEARED , FROM BEAR RIVER GROUNDS BSSSSSS1 u i H "Drow" Marshall is alivo, or "vrris, tit H least, on the 20th or Ootobor, last H year. This was the positive doclara- B tion of Frank Hallon, son of August H Hallon of 2019 Ballantyno avenue, H yesterday afternoon at tho opening of H a conversation with a Standard report- H or concerning tho former Ogdon drug- gist, who disappeared on Octobor IS, H 1916, whllo on a duck hunt at the H Bear Hivor hunting grounds with a 1 party of Ogden frlonds. Hallon is as- sistant superintendent of the Fred J. B Kiesol ranch at Panna, Ore,, and do- fl clarcs that ho saw and spoko to Mar- H shall at n point on tho road near tho H Nissa brldgo, between Parma and Ar- cadin, Ore, the day beforo ho received H the first news of the Ogden man's disappcaranco in the Ogden Standard, Issuo of October 20. Disappearance of Druggist. H Marshall, who was one of tho most H "DREW" MARSHALL. H prominently known young men of the H community, left Ogden on the after- H noon of Wednesday, October 18, for H the Bear River hunting grounds. In H company with Charles Empey, ruana- H gcr of the Ogden Wholesale Drug com- BH pany; George Farr and John Myers H employes of tho same company, anc H William T. Greenwell, secretary ol M tho Ogden Elks' lodge. That night H ho disappeared and it was thought he H had been drowned in tho Bear river, H For days following Box Elder county, H particularly along the Bear river from H the power dam in Bear River canyon H to Great Salt Lake, was covered as by H a fine-toothed comb and the river was H dragged in many places. Delegations fl for tho Elks, Eagles and Masonic lodg- H es of Ogden and many other persons H from Ogden, Brigham City and other H towns assisted in the search, which H wait finally abandoned as fruitless. H Since that time no news of him has H been received in Ogden until Mr. Hal- H len made his startling declaration yes- ( terday. Marshall Alive. "1 was driving, making a trip to Ar-BBH Ar-BBH cad fa from the ranch at Parma," Mr. H Hallen stated, on cither the 19th or m 20th of Octobor anyway, I didn't M know that Marshall was supposed to m be dead, as I didn't read of his dis-H dis-H appearance until the following day, H which was, I am quite sure, tho 20th H when I saw Marshall In a Ford auto-M auto-M mobile. We were nearlng the Nissa M bridge when an automobile approach-M approach-M ed and I turned aside to let It pass. M The drlvor of the machine slowed up H as he passed our rig and I saw 'Drew' fl Marshall in tho seat with him. I was H positive it was Marshall, as I had only H seen two Ogden men In more than H threo years, and they looked so good H to me I bcliovc I could spot one I knew H a mile off. Ogden people are sure wel-H wel-H come at my place on tho ranch. H "So, as soon as I recognized him, I H shouted, 'Hello, "Drew!" But 1 don't H recall whether he answered mo or not, H as the driver of the car speeded up H again as soon as ho got past 'Drew H wore a Mackinaw coat, checked with H black stripes, and there was another M man, in addition to the driver, in the fl automobile with him. It was a brand H new Ford car, that couldn't have been H driven farther than from Nampa, not H even from Boise, as there was not a H bit of mud on It and not enough dust H f to deaden Its appearance of newness. H "After I read of Marshall's disap-H disap-H pearance I Inquired of the Ford agen-H agen-H cy people at Nlssa if they had recent-( H ly sold a new car and found thoy had H not So I think it must havo been B purchased at Nampa." H Knew Druggist Well. M Mr. Hallen has lived in Ogden most B of his life, having been employed as a m teamster for A. L, Brewer and the H Fred J. Klesel company, prior to go-. M ing to Oregon to look after Mr. Kie-H Kie-H sel's extensive ranching Interests. He H described tho missing druggist accur-H accur-H ately yesterday, having been acquainting acquaint-ing ed with him almost since childhood. H "At first," ho said, "I thought I H I might have been mistaken, and let tho H search for Marshall proceed, but since H then I have been positively convinced M that he was the man I saw on the Nis-H Nis-H sa turnpike." |
