Show I DOUBLES TITLE PLAY ON CARD FOR TODAY BOSTON, Aug. 1G. Frederick B. Alexandor and Harold Throckmorton of Now York will meet Irving C. Wright and Harry C. Johnson of Boston Bos-ton tomorrow In the final of the na- tional doubles patriotic tournament at tho Longwood Cricket club as an out come of today's matches. Alexander many times holder of the doublos title with H. H. Hackett. and young Throck morton earned their place in tho finals by a five-set victory over N. W. Nile of Boston and T. R. Pell of New York With tho match two sots to one against him, Alevandor was obliged tc uncover all his old-time skill anc strategy to beat back his opponents for Throckmorton, who had boen play ing brilliantly in tho tournament, was unable to withstand the severe game which Poll and Niles directed againsi him. Johnson and Wright got into th( finals by winning a hard four-sol match from F. S. Inman of New Yort and J. C. Strachan of San Francisco owing largely to the lino placemeni shots of Johnson, tho stato singles champion. In the woman's singles Miss Molk Bjurstedt of Norway will resume hei duel with Miss Mary Browne of Call I fornia in tho finals tomorrow. Mis: I Bjurstedt, who is the national cham pion, easily defeated Mrs. B. E. Col II of Boston, while Miss Browno woi in straight sets from Mies Eleanoi Sears, the Boston export. |
