Show liliy GERMANS AREJffiESTED In Custody of Federal Officers for Violating the Espionage Espion-age Act. YANKTON, S. D., Aug. 27. Thirty Germans, arrested near Tripp, S. D., this morning, for an alleged violation of the espionage act were brought here this afternoon in custody of federal fed-eral officers. The men aro charged with having signed a petition to Governor Gov-ernor Norbeck protesting against the draft and tho war. The thirty men brought here today previously had been arrested, charged with violating the espionage act and were bound over to tho federal district court for trial. On August 14, fifteen of the men were apprehended for signing a petition to the county sheriff similar to tho ono sent to the governor. gover-nor. Again on August 21 fifteen other Germans were taken for directing a petition to the county treasurer. All of these, it Is said, were signers of the protest to tho governor. Late this afternoon tho men wero arraigned before United States Commissioner Com-missioner E. T. White for a preliminary prelimi-nary hearing. |
