Show Accuse French General of Insulting In-sulting German Officer Prisoners Pris-oners and Promise Reprisals. ACCUSATION DENIED General Denies Infamous Charges and Demands Apoli gies From Germans. PARIS, Aug. 27. Tho German imperial im-perial bureau of foreign affairs has addressed ad-dressed a note to tho French government govern-ment through tho Swiss legation here, accusing General Maitrot of the French army of insulting German officer offi-cer prisoners during the German offensive offen-sive at Verdun. The general is charged with calling the officers "bandits" "ban-dits" and "pigs" and with personally tearing off their epaulets and decorations decora-tions and striking them and with tell-J ing them on one occasion that ho could have them shot but that they were not worth It, so he would hang them. Tho note names three German officers offi-cers who are now at S , and asks the Swi3s legation to request the French government to opon an Investigation Inves-tigation and punish General Maitrot The legation is also asked to make an Independent investigation at S . If the German government, It is set forth, has not received the French ro-ply ro-ply by August (September?) 7, it will make appropriate reprisals. General Maitrot has written to French headquartors that he has never been in Yerdun or oven in tho Verdun region during tho war.
