Show INTERPRETATION OF SEAMAN'S ACT PHILADELPHIA, April 26. What is said to be the first interpretation of the terms of the La Follette seaman's act by a federal court of appeals was handed down today by Judge Buffing-ton Buffing-ton in an opinion dismission suits brought by Jacob Nellemann and Michael Mi-chael Jorgensen, seaman on the Danish Dan-ish steamer London. The seamen, respectively, re-spectively, had earned $60.48 and $64.35 and been paid $37.53 and $40.52. They left the vessel when the captain refused to pay them half the amounts of these balances. Judge Buffington upheld the contention of tho captain that, under the law, the seamen were entitled only to ono-half tho amount earned by them until the voyage for which they had shipped had been completed. |
