Show If CHEAP lliffl .... IBM CARS It is said by Alvln Taylor of Sidney, 1 Australia, one of the foremost auto mobile dealers of the Australian country, coun-try, that the cost of the upkeep of a car In America is nothing to compare with the cost in his country. He feels that Americans have no reason to complain of the price of gasoline at from 27 to 35 cents a gallon and that f they do not fully appreciate the low . cost of maintenance of autos in this j country, j I By way of comparison of the cost of I1. running machines in America and ' Australia, Mr. Taylor has this to say: . "Motor cars cost about twice as ' much at home. as they do In this coun- j: , try, and they cost from four to five times as much to run Petrol (gasoline), (gaso-line), tires, oil all are many times more expensive than they are here. "I understand there has been a great I commotion over the high price of gasoline gas-oline in this country, and the unprecedented unpre-cedented increase in cost during the last two years. But the increase here Is as nothing compared with what we have to stand in Australia. Gasoline on the road is 90 cents a gallon. The wholesale cost to dealers in any lot from ten gallons to 10,000, is 5S cents. Lubricating oils sell at n similar rate. So, you see, if one has a ear that de- ' livers twenty miles to the gallon the gasoline cost alone is practically 3 cents a mile." |
