Barnard, food and drug commissioner for the Indiana State Board of Health, speaking at the (Friday) morning session of the National Association of Master Bakers Bak-ers here today. Striking tho keynote of his address, ad-dress, Dr. Bernard said: "No baker nowadays can merely live up to the standards of his father and withstand competition or satisfy his trade. While complaints have been heard occasionally of rises in the price of bread made necessary by soaring prices of Ingredients, the baker Is one of the most consistent enemies of the high cost of living in the domestic and economic field, "In the last ten years machinery has supplanted practically all of the slow and expensive hand methods of production, at an added degree of safety from the health standpoint, baking formulas have been developed which improve quality and reduce costs while insuring standard results, re-sults, and dirt proof wrappers adopted adopt-ed to protect each individual loaf on its journey from oven to table.
