Show CIVIL SERVICE FOR POSTMASTERS President Wilson Writes Letter Favoring Competitive Examination Ex-amination for All Classes. WOULD ENACT LAW Recommendations of Postmaster Postmas-ter General Meets Hearty Approval Chance for Promotions. New York, Nov. G. President Wilson Wil-son declared favoring legislation providing pro-viding for the appointment of postmasters post-masters of all classes through competitive compet-itive civil service examination, in a letter to the National Civil Service Reform league, which was made pub-He pub-He last week. Last -week Charles E Hughes, Republican nominee for president, pres-ident, endorsed such legislation. The president's letter follows: "I wish to state that the postmaster general in his annual report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1011, recommended rec-ommended to congress the enactment of legislation which would permit of the - extension of the classified civil service so as to include the postmasters postmas-ters at all offices of the'third class. Tho following year he not only renewed renew-ed this recommendation, but asked that the position of postmaster at offices of-fices of the second class be included as well, but no action has ever been taken. oo |
