This community must not allow that assault committed last night on William Horspool to pass without serving notice in some manner that the tough element, whenever It steps over the line drawn by the criminal law to attack an old man protecting a little girl, strikes at every decent man and woman in Ogden. Mr. Horspool is 71 years old and the children he was protecting were a I Uttlo sir) ion ymtxa and a boy or nine. Tho old gentleman, who is esteemed by all who know him, resented re-sented an insult directed at tho little girl by a young man to bo classed as a degenerate. Tho defender of tho Innocent little ones was dealt a heavy blow by the pervert andveven ono of the children was struck. Bystanders! saw the brutal assault and pursued tho thug, until he was caught. When tho trial of this man is on, tho mothers of the city should attend in a body, not for the purpose of influencing in-fluencing the court, but to emphasize empha-size their Indignation and indirectly servo notice on the roughnecks that an outraged public, thoroughly aroused, is resolved to insist in a cleaning out of the vile lecherous thugs, who prey on helpless children, and strike old men who are their guardians. Wo do not recall a crime committed in Ogden in years that equals this offense in its invasion of tho sacred rights of innocent childhood. Women, matured in years and judgment, can do as they see fit In accepting the attention at-tention of others, but our children must bo protected at all cost from tho lecher the man in the dark. |
