Plans for a co-ordination of efforts between the American Federation of Labor and the four great railway brotherhoods for an eight-hour day fight, said to have been formulated at a conference here today, are surrounded with considerable secrecy. se-crecy. The brotherhood leaders who conferred con-ferred with President Gompers and later expected to go to the White House, had disappeared from tho city, but it was said they were to address the American Federation of Labor convention con-vention in Baltimore on the subject tomorrow. to-morrow. President Gompors was quoted quot-ed as refusing to discuss tho subject on the ground that it was to come before be-fore the convention. The reported plan of the labor leaders lead-ers is surrounded with many circumstances circum-stances which lead government officials offi-cials interested in the congressional Investigation of the eight-hour railroad law to believe it has been formulated to meet a reported movement on the part of employers to band together to fight the eight-hour day. Until the plans are fully disclosed the legislative program of the administration admin-istration will not be fully shaped, but it is admitted that the action of the labor leaders will have an Important bearing upon it. |
