Show WHY THE SCHOOL BUILDINGS ARE DILAPIDATED. The respectful reply of the Board of Education, in response to the communication com-munication of the Child Culture club, is printed in full in this Issue of the Standard and should be read by all those interested in our schools. Club members had observed that the school buildings were not what they should bo. The houses wore referred to as insanitary and poorly constructed. The board admits the buildings aro not what they should he but points out that the present condition were handed down to them nd with the dilapidated structures was urned over a depleted treasury. Facing a situation so voxatloua, the board has made an excellent record. But there is a grqat work yet to be done. Tho shortcomings referred to by the Child Culture olub call for more money. Means must be provided pro-vided by which to obtain the desired improvements. Under tho old regime, two proposod bond Issues were overwhelmingly over-whelmingly defeated, which in our opinion, signified laok of confidence. The record of economy of the board as now constituted londs encouragement encourage-ment to those who hope that, after the school election, If another proposition to bond is submitted, the taxpayers of Ogden will sanction the same and thereby mako possible the remedying of tho defects found by the Child Culture club. |
