One attempted twelve times to storm the Teuton positions; seventeen times the soldiers of the guard went forward only to be driven back, the German commander reports. In one sector, north of Zaturcy, the Russians succeeded In entering demolished de-molished Teuton trenches, but Berlin announces they were driven out by a counter attack. The charge is made that Austrian and German wounded left in the trenches were slaughtered by the Russians. So great was the slaughter, Berlin declares, that tho Russian artillery was forced to turn its fire on the Russian trenches in order to drive the foot soldiers forward to the attack. Curtains of fire were lifted behind the infantry lines to prevent their falling back. In tho front northeast of Lemberg Berlin also claims a further success for the Austro-German counter attack.
